William D. Higginson is an Australian born Canadian surrealist painter with international exposure. He has been a professional artist since 2007, working extensively across various mediums and genres. His work is held in private collections worldwide and has been showcased in numerous solo exhibitions, including sellout shows at The Space An Art Gallery in 2023 and 2017, The Chali Rosso Art Gallery in 2019 (featuring works by Salvador Dali), and The Vancouver Club in 2016. Higginson has received several prestigious awards, such as 1st place in the Surrealize International Art Competition in 2022, the Golden Brush First Place in 2011 and 2012, and an Award of Excellence from the Canadian Federation of Artists in 2011. Beyond his individual practice, Higginson has held significant roles in the art community. He has been the owner and artist at Impressions Live Art since 2007 and served as the Gallery Owner and Director of The Space An Art Gallery from July 2017 to December 2020. He co-founded Direct2Artist, a global community initiative, and served as its Community Director from 2013 to 2019. Additionally, he was the Membership Chair for The Federation of Canadian Artists from 2013 to 2016 and the Owner Operator of Art Battle Vancouver from 2013 to 2014. Higginson’s experiences with illness, military service, and international travel deeply influence his art, which aims to evoke emotional responses and introspection. He is passionate about mentoring young artists and fostering artistic talent, believing in the transformative power of art. His dedication to the arts community and his unique perspective have made him a notable figure in contemporary surrealism.
