Tanya Smith is a mixed media artist working primarily with textile and thread. In her current body of work, Held Together, fabric is stretched, bound, and sutured into restrained compositions that reveal visible strain. Reclaimed cotton muslin, linen, and woven textiles are hand-dyed, then cut, torn, layered, and hand-stitched, creating moments of tension between structure and instability. Influenced by years working in photography, her practice is grounded in composition and spatial balance, while the work itself remains physical, and highly textured.
