Michaela Lucio is a Canadian artist, curator, and arts administrator whose work explores the lingering histories held within family photographs. Drawing from the intimate language of photo albums, she blends memory and imagination into paintings that reflect themes of home, domesticity, and intergenerational connection. Working with layered watercolour on frosted mylar, Lucio creates luminous, fluid surfaces that echo the softness and elusiveness of nostalgia. She also incorporates embroidery, reinterpreting materials traditionally associated with femininity and feminist discourse. Lucio holds a Specialist Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto Mississauga and an Advanced Diploma in Art and Art History from Sheridan College, where she received the Silver Medal Award. Her work has been exhibited across Southwestern Ontario and recognized with first place in the WFCU Credit Union Painting Competition (2022, 2024), a longlisting for the Jackson’s Art Prize (2024), Best in Show at Visual Elements 66, and inclusion in The Artist Project in 2025 and 2026.
