Guelph, ON

Booth 418

Main

Mary Karavos describes her practice as Fine Art Paper Collage. Mary’s formal art training took place at the Ontario College of Art, completing her studies in Florence Italy. Life in Florence and the beautiful mosaics greatly influenced Mary's individual style and technique. Patiently layering piece by piece of only the finest Japanese, Nepalese, Korean and specially papers she creates a rich interplay of texture, colour and space. For Mary, she is simply “discovering and intuiting the paper paintings seeking to be unearthed.” Mary actively exhibits and sells her work and has won numerous awards in her career, most notably the “ prix du Jury” at the Societe’ Nationale des Beaux-Arts (Carousel du Louvre, Paris, France), the bronze medal from the Arts-Science-Lettres Academy of Paris, twice recipient at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and most recently Honourable mention from the Society of Canadian Artists. Her work has been exhibited Internationally at Art On Paper New York, Monaco, France, Italy, Chicago, San Francisco and the Affordable Art Fairs in New York, London, Singapore, Brussels, Amsterdam, Germany. Locally, Karavos exhibits annually at the Guelph Studio Tour, The One of a Kind Winter show and the Toronto Artist Project. Mary Karavos currently lives and works in Guelph, ON.
