I paint landscape and still life in oil, combining realism with areas of more impressionistic impasto paint that capture the play of light. A lifelong artist, I draw on a very free childhood spent outside absorbing the nature of landscape, which has influenced me in my choice of subjects. My art is further influenced by Dutch still life painting and my joy in the beauty of everyday things. In recent years my art has evolved to highlight the distilled character of our memories and viewpoint, leading me to reimagine the physical form of my art. Our minds record elements that are of interest to us rather than a snapshot of everything we observe. My shaped paintings on custom-cut, cradled board portray this human response to our lived experience.
