Art connects to the depths of being, a truth Kamaldeep Kaur fully embraces on her creative journey. Born and raised in India, Kamaldeep now explores her life in Canada, seeking to enrich her artistic practice by immersing herself in diverse cultures. Her initial path was far removed from the art world; she studied actuarial science and followed a pragmatic, well-trodden career route. Kamaldeep initially worked in mixed media, using charcoal, gold leaf, and acrylic. Now a decade into her art practice, she shifted to gouache and natural pigment colours on Wasli or watercolour paper, embracing traditional (Indian) techniques. She has exhibited widely in her home country, with more than 40 exhibitions, and has shown her work internationally, including shows in Canada and Germany. Her recent art fairs include the Artist Project 2024 and the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair 2023 in Canada. In 2023, she received an Artist Encounter grant from TOAF, as well as support from the Ontario Arts Council in 2024. She was also awarded the All India and Zonal Award from the Prafulla Art Foundation in 2027. Her work explores the self and surroundings, an ongoing dialogue between her inner experiences and the external world. As she continues to evolve personally and artistically in her new Canadian home, she remains committed to expressing the universal emotions that connect us all, drawing on the rich tapestry of cultures that surround her.
