After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Université de Montréal (QC) in 1999, I have spent the past 25 years developing a professional art practice centered on the observation of nature. My work is informed by extensive travel throughout Canada, seeking landscapes that remain largely untouched by human presence. Deeply moved by the beauty and vastness of the Canadian territory, I strive to convey the emotional impact of these environments in my paintings. Working in oil on very large canvases, I create realistic landscapes with meticulous attention to detail, lending the work a evocative surreal quality. Born in the Laurentians (QC), Julie Desmarais has lived and worked in Montreal for the past 30 years. In 2004, she received a scholarship and presented a solo exhibition at the Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides (QC). Since then, she has exhibited in numerous galleries and participated in contemporary art fairs across Canada and the United States. Her oil paintings are held in both national and international public and private collections.
