Hans Poppe is a contemporary artist and graphic designer based in Mississauga and Toronto, known for blending traditional mediums with African cultural elements. Born in Tanzania and arriving in Canada in 1987, his work reflects a lived connection between these two worlds. Working across painting, illustration, and printmaking, Hans is recognized for his signature technique of oil painting on kitenge fabric, bringing texture and cultural depth to scenes of everyday Tanzanian life. His work explores themes of identity, community, and lived experience. His practice has earned multiple honours, including recognition from the Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) and the Mississauga Arts Council. His design work has appeared across major public platforms in the GTA, and his art has been exhibited both in Canada and internationally, including a solo exhibition in Iringa, Tanzania.
