Emily Carriere is an award-winning mixed-media artist based in Hamilton, Ontario. Her practice spans layered 2D artworks and intricate sculptures that investigate materiality, surface, and the emotional tension between desire and disgust. By merging traditional techniques with digital processes and unconventional media—including cut vinyl, plexiglass, resin, and studio off-cuts—she creates work that feels at once organic and otherworldly. Since 2017, Carriere has exhibited extensively across Canada and internationally. Her work has been recognized in major juried exhibitions, notably winning the Untapped Emerging Artist Competition at The Artist Project. Other honors include the Best Use of New Material Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and Best Mixed Media at the Riverdale ArtWalk. Through meticulous layering, glossy surfaces, and psychologically charged forms, Carriere invites viewers to engage their own perceptions and subconscious responses, transforming industrial materials into vibrant, biological narratives.
