Dylan Dae Shin (b. 2004, Toronto) is a Toronto-based artist working in abstract painting and sculpture. He currently studies at OCAD University, in the DRPT program. Shin has shown work through the city of Toronto at North York Central Library, and assisted in performance work at the Plumb. He is a member of Shoes Off Collective and currently has work on loan at Sherbourne Health Center, and the Ontario Court of Justice. He has also participated in group shows taking place in student galleries and artist-run centres such as Ada Slaight Gallery, The OCAD University Graduate Gallery, and Gallery 1313. Influenced by East Asian abstract painting and North American public infrastructure, Dylan uses his durational, and process driven abstraction as a tool to explore the bland, mundane, and temporal nature of everyday aesthetics. With a continuous fascination in ruins, weathered surfaces, and visual peculiarities, Shin's practice aims to synthesize the visual language of an object's life span, as well as understand an individual's interaction with everyday systems and structures.
