Carrie Chisholm

Toronto, ON

Booth 711

Main

Carrie Chisholm, AOCAD, MFA is a Toronto-based, award-winning artist whose mixed media practice examines desire, prestige, and the seductive illusions of consumer culture. Her practice spans drawing, painting, textiles, sculpture, and installation, often combining 2-D and 3-D approaches. She is particularly interested in optical effects produced by line, colour, and light, such as ornamentation, pattern, transparency, reflection, and shadow, using these elements to destabilize perception and disrupt visual authority. Chisholm’s work frequently reinterprets designer product photography, subjecting images of opulence to blind contour drawing and layered paint. Through this deliberate “mis-handling,” pristine commercial imagery is fractured and reassembled, shattering its intended perspective while retaining its allure. The resulting works explore the tension between desire and fulfillment, revealing beauty within distortion and collapse. Since completing studies in Florence, Italy, she continually returns to the belief that, as Imogen Heap observes, “there’s beauty in the breakdown.”
