Working in a grid has allowed me to enhance my process, it's constraints force me to think more about the paint and the surface of the canvas. Working slowly, meditatively, I have learned to pause and to appreciate the memory associated with the colour and as well as appreciate the act of painting itself. This slower process of painting this way builds quiet layers of colour and tone resulting in final blocks of colour that encourage the viewer to stop a bit longer and look —to see the colour on the surface and find the colour underneath. To search for where the painting began and observe where it ends and maybe, let it take the viewer into their own nostalgic journey.
